Rekindling the Spirit | With David Baum and Kathy Karn

July 13-19, 2008 | Bear Island, Lake Temagami, Ontario, Canada (Map)

Would you like more inspiration and delight? Are you looking for an opportunity to laugh loudly and long - a chance to play while getting in touch with who you really are and who you want to become? Are you overwhelmed by challenges and demands, needing some relief from the routine in your life? Are you going through big changes in your life or looking to make big changes?

If your answer is yes to any of the above, then Rekindling the Spirit is for you. We invite you to come join us on the Temagami First Nation Territory on Bear Island in majestic Lake Temagami, Northern Ontario. We will explore the choices we make, the character we bring and the practices we need to deepen the quality of our lives. Any deep personal exploration can open the door to miracles of timing and synchronicity. Our hopes, needs and desires are the insistent knock. Spirit then opens the door from within with messages of support and guidance. Our yearning is the language, our ache the words, our desires the grammar.

Program Components include:

  • Nurture your spirit through nature and community
  • Experience rich processes designed to heal past or current life issues
  • Find new ways to bring your new self back home
  • Live in a traditional tipi village in Ojibway Territory
  • Laugh harder than you have laughed in years!

This program is for those who want to become more fully alive. It is for men and women who are seeking to reconnect with or deepen their commitment their own life journey - or as a past participant put it, for those who "want to shrink the negative in their lives and grow the positive." This is a rare opportunity for you: a week in a sensational wilderness setting with a small group of like-minded folks, under the skilled guidance of two talented leaders. Think of it as an investment in yourself, something especially for you.

The Setting:

Located in the heart of Northern Ontario, Temagami is a place of incredible beauty where the call of the loon echoes over the water and evening skies are lit by northern lights. We stay at the Tipi Camp of Virginia McKenzie. Virginia, and her son James, a gifted traditional singer and drummer, will inspire you with the wisdom and teachings of the Anishnabai people and their 7,000-year-old connection to the land.

The Facilitators:

Drawing from over 44 years combined training, Kathy Karn and David Baum have designed a program that supports both personal and professional development.

David Baum is a sought-after consultant and author in personal and organizational change principles. His work projects have included conflict mediation in Belfast, Northern Ireland, facilitating President Clinton's "Summit for America's Future" and post-conflict change in Bosnia. David holds a doctorate in organizational psychology and a second in divinity. His clients include Fortune 50 companies, non-profits and Nobel Prize winning organizations. He teaches at The University of Pennsylvania, The University of Western Ontario and Cambridge University.

Kathy Karn is a psychotherapist and consultant in private practice. She earned her M.Ed. in counseling psychology. She has extensive training in a variety of therapeutic interventions and specializes in trauma and loss. Kathy is often sought after as a therapist and group facilitator because of her ability to blend traditional clinical practice with creativity, myth, story, and indigenous wisdom. She has organized and delivered workshops on personal development and creativity in Canada and the USA for the past 20 years.

The Program:

The week is carefully balanced between contemporary group process and global cross-cultural practices. The program is designed to cultivate intuition and creativity, those unseen powers that can heal, inspire, teach and entertain. Kathy and David's work includes the use of experiential learning, meditation, and creative expression. There is ample time for introspection, recreation, rest and being in nature as well. Together Kathy and David's strong leadership experience with local Anishnabai Virginia McKenzie's and James Seville's connection to the land, provide a unique and shape-shifting experience that can impact you for years to come.

Registration & Fees:

Fee for the workshop is $975. We urge you to register early to assure a place. Room and board at the Tipi Camp is $750. Cost includes transportation to and from the island, all meals and taxes. Contact Virginia McKenzie for more information on housing.
