I offer group consultation with Dr. Brynah Schneider C. Psych, my colleague and co-trainer in EMDR. We also present professional development seminars on trauma and advanced EMDR skills for therapists and healthcare providers. Call us to learn more about this.
I provide individual consultation to EMDR therapists in my office or via telephone. As an EMDRIA-approved consultant, consultation hours that EMDR trained therapists receive with me after their basic training count towards Certification in EMDR. Therapists who have completed an EMDRIA-approved training must receive 20 hours of consultation from an EMDRIA-approved consultant in order to be certified. Consultation hours can include 10 hours of group and 10 hours of individual consultation, or 20 hours of individual consultation.
Consultation provides an opportunity for therapists to deepen their EMDR skills, ask questions about case conceptualization and planning, and get help with challenging cases. I ask consultees to include client history, case conceptualization and session process notes as well as any questions they might have when preparing cases to present. I have found that this preparation helps consultees clarify their thinking and enables me to understand how best to advise them.
The consultation groups provide therapists with the opportunity to ask questions, get help with challenging cases, clarify protocols and procedures, assist with case conceptualization, resource development and installation, targeting and interweaves. The groups are an important support and resource to EMDR therapists following their training helping to develop their skills and confidence develop.
